The Sunshine State has attracted another political refugee from California, thanks to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Earlier this month, the Claremont Institute, a top conservative think tank based near Los Angeles, announced that it was setting up shop in Florida.

And specifically because of DeSantis.

“Protecting and restoring the American way of life is the most important work Governors and state legislators can do right now,” Claremont Institute President Ryan Williams said in a statement while his organization participated in a forum on media defamation in Tallahassee that was hosted by DeSantis.

“Governor DeSantis has shown fearless intellectual and political leadership in the fight against woke leftism. We are thrilled to help him and his legislative allies continue this important work as part of our ongoing efforts across the states by creating a new Tallahassee-based position of Senior Director of State Coalitions.”

The New York Times has referred to the Claremont Institute as the “nerve center of the American Right,” according to the Daily Signal, which reported on Claremont’s move. The group is known for advocating policies that adhere to the vision of the Founding Fathers.

The organization will establish its Florida base in Tallahassee. There, Scott Yenor will lead Claremont’s state coalition effort.

In a press release, Claremont said Yenor will use Florida “as the first template for any red state in America.”

“We are bringing Claremont Institute state activity to Florida for a few reasons, not least of which is the bold executive and legislative leadership in the Sunshine State,” the group said in its release.

“We are excited to help continue this work by educating allies and leaders alike on effective policy strategies to combat the woke regime in Florida and America at large.”

In a tweet about Claremont’s Florida initiative, First Lady Casey DeSantis tweeted that she was “thrilled” that Yenor was making “his new home in Tallahassee.”

“Protecting Americans from infringing woke ideology is important work, and we are grateful Scott, and the Claremont Institute picked Florida to continue their mission,” she said.
