Inmate’s Death In Sarasota Under Investigation

SARASOTA, Fla. – The Sarasota County Correctional Facility is investigating an inmate’s May 15, 2023 death.

According to investigators, at 6:26 a.m., Sunday, May 15, Rachel Elizabeth Morgan, of Sarasota, was found unresponsive in her cell in the medical wing of the facility by corrections deputies.

Life-saving efforts were initiated by both corrections deputies and medical personnel; however, despite attempts to resuscitate, Morgan was pronounced dead at 6:43 a.m.

The man had been arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

No signs of trauma were evident, and there was no known use of force against the decedent. This is an ongoing investigation.
