Inside The Lights And Sirens: Tampa Fire Rescue Opens its Doors For A Day Of Family Discovery

TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa families have a unique chance to step behind the yellow tape this weekend as Tampa Fire Rescue hosts its Annual Open House in the heart of downtown.

The free event, scheduled for Saturday, April 11, runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and spans two historic locations: Fire Station 1 at 808 E. Zack St. and the Tampa Firefighters Museum directly across the street.

The open house is designed to offer a transparent look at the daily operations of the city’s emergency responders. Attendees can get an up-close view of fire engines and specialized equipment, meet the department’s firefighters, and see the Search & Rescue K-9s in action.

For younger visitors, the event includes a junior firefighter obstacle course, bounce houses provided by Rockin’ Bouncies, and the debut of the Downtown Safety District located inside the museum.

Beyond the entertainment, the department is prioritizing public safety education. Crews will lead live demonstrations on the proper use of fire extinguishers and provide hands-on CPR training for families.

“This is one of our favorite ways to connect with the community,” said Fire Chief Barbara Tripp. “It gives families an opportunity to meet the men and women who serve them, ask questions, and see firsthand how we prepare to respond when it matters most.”

The event is entirely free to the public, focusing on fire safety and emergency preparedness.
