POLK CITY, Fla. – A 24-year-old Polk City woman is facing multiple charges, including Battery by Strangulation and Battery on a Firefighter, following a volatile incident late Wednesday evening.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) deputies responded to a residence on Cypress Trails Drive at approximately 10:30 p.m. on October 15th after receiving a battery complaint.
Upon arrival, deputies investigated the claims made by the victim, who reported being hit, bit, and choked by the suspect, identified as Laylani Jonquille Sullivan. The victim also reported that Sullivan was heavily intoxicated and unclothed outside of the residence.
When deputies attempted to secure Sullivan, she reportedly resisted their efforts. A female firefighter from Polk County Fire Rescue (PCFR) attempted to cover Sullivan, but Sullivan allegedly punched the firefighter in the chest. The firefighter was not injured in the incident.
Sullivan was subsequently arrested and transported to the Sheriff’s Processing Center. She has been formally charged with Battery by Strangulation, Battery on a Firefighter, Resisting with Violence, and Resisting without Violence.
