A 19-year-old motorcyclist from Inverness suffered serious injuries last night after a high-speed crash near the I-275 exit to Bearss Avenue, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The incident occurred at approximately 7:15 PM on Tuesday.
High-Speed Impact
The FHP report states that a Yamaha R6 motorcycle was traveling southbound at high speed on the exit ramp from Interstate 275 (I-275) toward Bearss Avenue.
The rider, a 19-year-old man, reportedly departed the ramp at speed, first striking a concrete traffic island. The motorcycle then entered Bearss Avenue, where it collided with a Chevrolet Silverado towing a trailer. The truck was being driven westbound on Bearss Avenue by a 41-year-old Tampa man.
Upon impact, the motorcyclist was thrown from the Yamaha R6. First responders transported the rider to a local hospital, where he is being treated for serious injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was not injured in the crash.
