WIMAUMA, Fla. – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has opened a homicide investigation following the death of a 4-year-old child in Wimauma.
Deputies responded to a call on the 2500 block of Tee Time Road at approximately 3:30 p.m. on February 20, 2026. Upon arrival, law enforcement located the child, who was suffering from trauma to the upper body. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an examination, the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the manner of death to be a homicide.
“This is a heartbreaking case, and our detectives are working tirelessly to determine the events that led to this tragedy,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We are committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring anyone responsible is held fully accountable.”
No suspects have been named at this time, and officials have not released further details regarding the specific nature of the trauma. The Sheriff’s Office stated that the case remains an active investigation.
