American military personnel operating under U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) coordinated with the Syrian Ministry of Interior to dismantle a significant portion of ISIS infrastructure in southern Syria this week. Between November 24 and November 27, the joint effort identified and obliterated more than 15 sites used to store weapons and supplies.

The operation, focused in the Rif Damashq province, saw personnel from Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) working directly with Syrian forces. Together, they located the hidden storage facilities and neutralized them through a combination of precision airstrikes and controlled ground detonations.

The material losses for the terror group were substantial. According to reports from the field, the raid destroyed over 130 mortars and rockets, along with stockpiles of anti-tank mines, machine guns, and assault rifles. Forces also discovered and destroyed raw materials used to manufacture improvised explosive devices (IEDs), as well as a quantity of illicit drugs found on-site.

Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM, emphasized that these strikes are critical to preventing a resurgence of the group, which has been forced underground since losing its territorial hold.

“This successful operation ensures gains made against ISIS are lasting and the group is not able to regenerate or export terrorist attacks to the U.S. homeland and around the world,” Cooper stated.

CJTF-OIR was established in 2014 to advise, assist, and enable partner forces in the region. While ISIS was declared territorially defeated in 2019, the coalition remains active to counter dispersed remnants of the organization that continue to operate in the shadows.

“We will remain vigilant and continue to aggressively pursue ISIS remnants in Syria,” Cooper added.
