U.S. Border Patrol Sector Chief Greg Bovino offered a glimpse into the volatile conditions facing federal agents in Minnesota this week, describing enforcement operations as a “running battle” against protesters he characterized as increasingly aggressive.

Appearing on Fox News’ Jesse Watters Primetime Friday night, Bovino addressed the challenges surrounding a massive Department of Homeland Security mission currently underway in Minneapolis. The interview followed reports of an incident where an agent discharged a weapon while confronting an individual in front of a vehicle—a moment Watters questioned to open the segment.

When asked if the agent should have been in that position, Bovino defended the tactical decision-making on the ground.

“Every situation is different in immigration enforcement,” Bovino told Watters. He noted that the presence of “agitators” creates a fluid and dangerous environment, suggesting it was not unreasonable for the agent to be in that specific location given the chaos on the street.

“I was out on the street today, Jesse, with the agents, and many similar situations occurred,” Bovino said. “Luckily they didn’t result in something like that, but absolutely agents are in a very precarious situation every single day.”

The Chief’s comments painted a picture of a tense standoff between law enforcement and groups attempting to disrupt their operations. He described the opposition not merely as protesters, but as “violent agitators” and “mobs” who are “out of control.”

Bovino recounted his own experience from the previous night, referencing a moment where a woman allegedly rushed and struck him. Despite these confrontations, he emphasized that the mission—which involves thousands of agents across Minnesota—would continue unabated.

“It’s almost like a running battle for a 10 or 12-hour shift,” Bovino said, praising the restraint shown by ICE and Border Patrol agents under what he termed constant pressure. “The mission is not going to stop.”

The operations in Minneapolis are part of a broader enforcement strategy supported by the current administration. Bovino cited backing from President Trump and Secretary Noem, asserting that agents have the necessary resources to secure the area.

“We’re arresting a lot of bad people and bad things here in Minneapolis,” Bovino concluded. “That’s not going to stop.”
