Democratic strategist James Carville declared that Republicans have lost their fear of President Donald Trump, pointing to a recent break in ranks by four GOP House members as proof that the President’s iron grip on the party is slipping.
Carville’s comments came after Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (PA), Mike Lawler (NY), Rob Bresnahan (PA), and Ryan Mackenzie (PA) crossed the aisle Wednesday, signing a discharge petition to force a vote on extending expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies.
“Just today, four Republicans broke out to bring up the subsidy vote on the House floor,” Carville told co-host Al Hunt on their “Politics War Room” podcast. “No one cares about Trump anymore. They’re not scared of him anymore. His presidency, other than the legal power he has granted to him by the Constitution, it’s over.”

The veteran strategist used colorful language to emphasize his point.
“No one gives a f— about him,” Carville said. “The only people who are scared are people like us who are thinking he gets caught in World War III. But there’s no fear left, and it’s easing out by the minute.”
The discussion was sparked by a recent Vanity Fair profile on White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, in which she reportedly described the president as having an “alcoholic’s personality.”
The Healthcare Fight
The legislative rebellion centers on tax credits for health care that are set to expire. The four Republicans bucked their party leadership after the House Rules Committee refused to allow a vote on an amendment to extend these credits within a separate GOP-led bill. While the House eventually passed a health care bill without the extensions, it faces a dead end in the Senate.
Rep. Mike Lawler pushed back on the idea that the move was an attack on House Speaker Mike Johnson, telling CNN that Trump needs to get involved in the negotiations. RELATED: ‘Absolute Bullsh*t’: NY GOP Rep. Lawler Goes Nuclear After Health Subsidy Talks Collapse
Broader Dissent
The healthcare vote isn’t the only friction point Trump is facing within his own party. Tensions have flared publicly with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), a former staunch ally who is resigning. The relationship deteriorated after Greene supported a push to force the Department of Justice to release all files related to Jeffrey Epstein.
Following the dispute, Trump labeled Greene a “traitor,” a comment the congresswoman says “directly fueled” death threats against her family. RELATED: Georgia Rep. MTG Goes Scorched Earth: Claims Trump’s ‘Traitor’ Jibe Put A Target On Her Son
