Jail Inmate Attacks Hillsborough County Sheriff Deputy

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL.- A Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office detention deputy was battered by an inmate late Friday night.

On Friday, November 5, 2021, just after 10 p.m., Deputy Christopher Crissman was escorting inmate Anthony Tirado, 37, back to his cell. Upon reaching the cell, Tirado knowingly and intentionally pushed Deputy Crissman into the cell.

Once inside of it, Tirado continued to batter the deputy, striking him multiple times. Deputy Crissman was eventually able to disengage Tirado and exit the cell.

Tirado then pursued Deputy Crissman, striking him with a closed fist on the left side of his forehead. He also removed his radio communication device, throwing it back into the cell.

After a brief struggle, Deputy Crissman was able to get Tirado and the situation under control until additional deputies arrived. Deputy Crissman suffered a contusion on the left side of his forehead and lacerations on the right side of his neck.

“Every single day, our deputies go into work unaware of the challenges they may face,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “And, every day, they put their lives and bodies on the line in order to keep the peace in our community. I’m extremely grateful that Deputy Crissman suffered only minor injuries at the hands of this inmate.”

Tirado faces additional charges of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer and Depriving Officer of Means of Protection or Communication.
