A Florida man, already in custody for violating probation, was hit with a new felony charge on Friday, October 24, 2025, after allegedly spitting on two prosecutors during a court appearance.
Scott David Alan Hedger, 45, Tavernier, was charged with two counts of battery following the incident at the Plantation Key Courthouse.
The event took place at approximately 11:30 a.m. while Hedger was appearing in court.
According to reports, Hedger was near a counsel’s table where Assistant State Attorneys Joseph Mansfield and Melissa Simmons were seated. Hedger reportedly lunged and spat on both lawyers before being immediately restrained by Sheriff’s Office personnel present in the courtroom.

Hedger was already being held for a probation violation. The new battery charges will be added to his existing legal woes. He remains incarcerated following the incident.
