Rep. Jasmine Crockett is making it clear that her path to the U.S. Senate isn’t paved with Democratic votes alone. The Texas Democrat said Saturday that her campaign is open to anyone ready to cross party lines, specifically targeting voters who may already be second-guessing their support for President Donald Trump.

Speaking during an interview on MS NOW, Crockett framed her candidacy as a “Texan” effort rather than a purely partisan one. She argued that the political landscape in the Lone Star State is shifting, creating an opening to reach disaffected Republicans.

“I’m a Texan, and so at the end of the day, I think people are trying to say it has to be one [party] or the other, and I believe it has to be both,” Crockett said. “We’re going to see frustration. We’re going to see people that are regretting that they voted for Trump. And those people are absolutely welcome in our campaign.”

Crockett pivoted to economic concerns to illustrate why conservative voters might look her way. She pointed to the agricultural sector, noting that farmers and ranchers were already struggling before the current administration took office, largely due to Congressional gridlock over the Farm Bill.

“They’ve already been feeling the heat before Trump got in there, because the Republicans would not allow for a farm bill to be passed out of the House,” she said. “He’s only exacerbated their problems. And that’s why there’s record numbers of bankruptcies that are being filed right now.”

The strategy comes just a week after Crockett officially threw her hat in the ring for the upper chamber. Her entry into the race followed the exit of former Rep. Colin Allred, who suspended his Senate campaign to run for a House seat instead.

Crockett now faces a primary showdown against Texas State Rep. James Talarico, another rising profile within the state’s Democratic party. Talarico responded to the challenge by emphasizing a similar theme, stating that the Democratic movement should be “rooted in unity over division.”
