House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries addressed the potential impeachment of Donald Trump during a press briefing held on Thursday, March 19, 2026. The inquiry focused on whether the administration’s military actions in Iran could be classified as an impeachable offense.
During the session, a reporter pointed out that several Democrats have characterized the current conflict as “illegal” and “unilateral,” asking Jeffries directly, “Do you think what the president is doing in Iran rises to the level of an impeachable offense and do you think it is worthwhile overall to try to impeach the president again?”
Jeffries did not provide a direct “yes” or “no” regarding impeachment proceedings.
Instead, he emphasized the party’s immediate legislative priorities. “What we’re focused on right now is stopping this reckless war of choice,” Jeffries stated.

He further announced plans to introduce a War Powers Resolution “in short order” to curb executive military action. Jeffries expressed confidence in the measure’s success, noting he expects “strong Democratic support” and anticipates that “a few Republicans” will join the effort.
The Democratic leader concluded by asserting that the resolution is a necessary step to “stand up for the American people who are overwhelmingly opposed to Donald Trump’s reckless war of choice.”
