The race for Florida’s 8th Congressional District saw a sudden shake-up today as Jennifer Jenkins announced her candidacy for the seat, marking her third distinct political pursuit in a single cycle.
The move follows her previous exits from the U.S. Senate race and a state legislative bid for Randy Fine’s seat.
The Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) was quick to respond to the shift, labeling the candidate “Jumpin’ Jenkins” and characterizing her frequent changes in direction as a search for political opportunity rather than a commitment to a specific constituency.
GOP officials suggested the pattern of entering and abandoning races indicates a lack of stability in her campaign strategy.
RPOF Chairman Evan Power released a formal statement regarding the announcement, criticizing the move as opportunistic.

“Jennifer ‘Jumpin’’ Jenkins keeps jumping — race to race, district to district — chasing whatever might stick,” Power said. “Floridians want a leader who fights for them and their community, not someone shopping for a seat.”
In the 8th District, Jenkins will face incumbent Congressman Mike Haridopolos. State Republicans are doubling down on their support for the sitting congressman, citing his established track record in the region.
The party described Haridopolos as a “proven conservative” whose existing tenure has been defined by his focus on Florida families and state values.
As the campaign season progresses, voters in the 8th District will now weigh Jenkins’ late entry against Haridopolos’s incumbency in what has become a high-profile addition to the Florida congressional map.
