Joe Rogan is questioning the timing of the Trump administration’s latest push to release classified UFO files, suggesting the move may be a calculated attempt to shift public focus away from a struggling military conflict in Iran.
During Thursday’s episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan was joined by Representative Tim Burchett (R-TN) to discuss the implications of the upcoming document dump.
While the conversation touched on topics ranging from alleged “MKUltra” style CIA experiments to the personality of certain members of Congress, the central focus remained on the sudden momentum behind UFO disclosure. Rogan posited that the transparency might not be driven by a sudden urge for honesty, but by political necessity.

“What doesn’t totally make sense is why now—disclosure—other than, I mean, this is being cynical,” Rogan said. “The Iran war is not going well.”
The ongoing conflict has seen Iran targeting and charging tolls to ships navigating the Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery for 20% of the world’s oil supply. While President Trump has alluded to a potential new deal, he has also vowed to increase “bombing” campaigns if an agreement is not reached. Rogan argued that the administration needs a significant cultural event to quiet domestic unrest regarding the war.
“The American public’s very upset. A lot of people don’t think we should have ever been involved in that in the first place. And we need some good news,” Rogan stated. “We need something to distract us.”
Rep. Burchett, a prominent voice in the push for UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) transparency, acknowledged the convenience of the timing. “If I was gonna do it, now would be the time I’d do it,” Burchett said.

However, Burchett offered a slightly different view of the President’s motives, suggesting Trump genuinely wants the files out but faces resistance from the intelligence community. He warned that the “war pimps at the Pentagon” would likely fight to keep the most significant information unclassified.
“I don’t want everybody to get their hopes up,” Burchett cautioned. “I don’t have a lot of faith in our government.”
