Podcasting titan Joe Rogan has offered a wild suggestion for President Donald Trump’s next political move: running for Governor of California in 2026. The host of The Joe Rogan Experience joked that a Trump bid for the Golden State’s top job would be the “funniest things of all time” and a perfect opportunity to “troll liberals” while “fixing” the state’s perceived woes.
On a recent episode with guests Francis Foster and Konstantin Kasin, Rogan painted a gloomy picture of the current political and social climate in California, saying friends are “fleeing L.A.” and that the state has hit “societal global warming.”
“It’s like everybody went crazy,” Rogan lamented, citing the chaos of the pandemic and social unrest as reasons for the state’s decline. “This is a bad climate now. This sucks.”

The Ultimate Trolling Move?
Rogan then landed his bombshell proposal for the former President, who left the White House earlier this year. “What Donald Trump should do is, when he leaves the office, is run for governor of California and just take over California and fix it,” he mused.
California’s current governor, Democrat Gavin Newsom, is term-limited and will step down after the November 2026 gubernatorial election, leaving an open seat.
The host clearly enjoyed the thought of the political spectacle: “It would be hilarious if he did. It would be one of the funniest things of all time if an 82-year-old man steps into the office of governor of California. ‘We’re gonna fix everything. You’ve got a problem with water. I know how to get the water.’ It would be f***ing hilarious.”
A Complicated Relationship
The joke comes despite Rogan recently breaking with Trump on policy, particularly over the use of federal troops in Democrat-run cities, and a comment Trump made about “hating” political opponents.
“I don’t agree with any of that. He’s a nut,” Rogan said last week regarding Trump’s comment on adversaries.

However, the podcaster’s latest suggestion shows that even with their differences, Rogan sees the former President as the ultimate political disrupter—a force capable of anointing himself as the unlikely savior of one of our country’s most liberal bastions.
While the prospect remains firmly in the realm of comedy, the thought of a “President-turned-Governor” Trump in California is certainly keeping the internet buzzing.
