George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley called an appeals court ruling striking down an injunction blocking President Donald Trump’s order activating the National Guard to address riots in Los Angeles a “buzz kill” for Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom of California’s efforts to build a narrative.

The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit unanimously struck down an injunction issued by United States District Judge Charles Breyer of the Northern District of California on Thursday. Turley said the appellate decision “freezes” the district court’s ruling, which he called “problematic” due to the “talking points” it recited.

“This is obviously something of a buzz kill for Governor Newsom. It interrupted his narrative that he is defending against the outbreak of tyranny,” Turley told “The Faulkner Focus” guest host Jacqui Heinrich. “The court here is saying actually, you are on the other side of the rule of law in this one, that the statute gives the president this authority, he has discretion to make that decision, that any violation of the statute was a highly technical one that would not justify what the district court did here.”

“It also freezes the district court’s decision, which was really problematic for many. You know, this is a district court judge that suggested President Trump was acting like King George,” Turley continued. “The opinion was sort of full of sort of talking points that we have seen out of some of the Democratic politicians. All of that has been set aside by the Ninth Circuit that says the president has this authority, he is likely to prevail and no, we don’t believe the governor has a veto on the deployment of National Guard personnel.”

Rioting spread to multiple cities after initially flaring up in Los Angeles following an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation, with some Democrats demanding that the agency cease its operations to “restore order.”

Resistance to ICE operations to arrest illegal immigrants has also included a Milwaukee judge who allegedly helped an illegal immigrant briefly evade ICE agents sent to arrest an illegal immigrant, and Democratic Mayor Freddie O’Connell of Nashville releasing the names of ICE agents involved in a crackdown on illegal immigrants in the city.
