HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County is taking a direct swing at illegal dumping and neighborhood blight starting this Monday.
In a move to boost local property values and community health, the county’s Rapid Response team is heading to the Oak Valley and Fruit Bowl neighborhoods for a week-long, massive curbside cleanup.
From April 27 through May 1, residents living within specific eastern Hillsborough boundaries can clear out the heavy stuff that usually requires a long haul to the landfill. The county will be picking up furniture, electronics, metal, general junk, and up to five non-commercial tires per household.
To make sure nothing gets left behind, officials are telling neighbors to have their items out on the curb by 5 a.m. on collection days, though setting them out the night before is the safest bet.

The cleanup is strictly for residents inside two specific zones. The Fruit Bowl area is bounded by East Old Hillsborough Avenue to the north, Pine Street to the east, Clay Pit Road to the south, and Orange Avenue to the west.
The Oak Valley zone covers the area between Clay Pit Road to the north and Oak Valley Drive to the south and west, with Pine Street marking the eastern edge.
While the team is ready to haul away a lot of debris, there are some hard limits. Yard waste, commercial tires, and hazardous chemicals are off the table for this particular sweep.
The program is already paid for through annual solid waste assessments on property taxes, so there is no extra fee for the pickup. Code Enforcement is pushing for a big turnout, noting that clearing out these eyesores now is the best way for homeowners to avoid future fines and code violations.
Residents who have questions about their specific street or what can be tossed can reach Code Enforcement at (813) 274-6600.
