Eighteen-year-old Kai Trump, granddaughter of President Donald Trump, showed significant improvement in the second round of her first LPGA event at The ANNIKA. The teenager shot a five-over 75 on Friday, a vast improvement over the 83 she posted on Thursday.

“Yeah, for the first day I was really nervous and I think the nerves just got to me,” Trump said. “But when I went out there today I just felt very calm and peaceful out there to be honest with you. That’s why I played better.”

The University of Miami commit—and daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump—was supported by her mother at the course. Though she didn’t make the cut, Trump was proud of her effort, which included four birdies in the second round, securing her first career LPGA birdie on the par-3 third hole.

Trump reflected on what she can take away from playing with the world’s best women’s golfers. She believes she can compete with them and pointed to preparation as the key to future success.

“Honestly, just prepare,” Trump said. “I did everything I could have possibly done for the tournament. So I think if you prepare right, the nerves are always gonna be there right, but they’ll be softer, I would just say that.”

Despite a double bogey on 15 and a bogey on 17, she was pleased with her second-round performance. When asked what she would tell President Trump about the day, Kai Trump smiled and said, “I had a great shot on 18 two days in a row.”
