A Kentucky mother will spend the rest of her life behind bars for the tragic murders of her two young sons. Tiffanie Lucas, 33, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for fatally shooting 6-year-old Maurice Baker Jr. and 9-year-old Jayden Howard in November 2023.
Lucas pleaded guilty to two counts of murder, admitting to shooting her sons in what her defense attorneys described as a “psychotic episode” brought on by opioid withdrawal.

The sentencing hearing was filled with raw emotion as Maurice Baker Sr., the father of Maurice Jr., spoke about his desperate attempts to gain custody of his son and the heartbreak of being denied access to him.
He shared his pain of losing his son long before his death, stating, “I lost my son the day he was born.”
Following the shooting, Lucas reportedly attempted to take her own life but failed when the gun jammed. During questioning, she expressed remorse, calling herself “so stupid” and admitting to being in a “bad spot.”
Investigators revealed that Lucas believed she was being manipulated through Facebook and Wi-Fi, leading to her actions.

While acknowledging the difficulty in comprehending the tragedy, Lucas’s attorneys emphasized her deep remorse and devastation over the loss of her sons.
“I understand that this is a hard thing for many people to accept or understand, but no one is more devastated by their deaths than Tiffanie Lucas,” said Jonathon Villavicencio, an attorney for Lucas, said while reading part of the statement to WDRB. “Jayden and Maurice Jr. were everything to Tiffanie.”
However, the court ultimately held her accountable for her actions, delivering a life sentence reflecting the crime’s gravity. She will be eligible for parole in 20 years.
