A Kentucky mother has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the tragic drowning death of her 3-month-old baby on New Year’s Day.
Amber Winstead, 36, entered a guilty plea to manslaughter on Friday, October 31st, according to court records cited by local news outlet WDRB.
The incident occurred in a motel bathtub in Louisville.
Authorities say that Winstead admitted to taking drugs earlier that day and falling asleep while she was in the tub with the infant. Hours later, she was reportedly woken up, and the baby was found submerged and had drowned, according to authorities.
Following her plea, Winstead’s attorney informed the court that his client is nearing completion of a drug treatment program. He requested that she be placed on house arrest until her sentencing, which is scheduled for December.
