Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie Claims Foreign Lobbying Is Fueling His Primary Challenge

Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie is sounding the alarm on his own primary race, alleging that a massive influx of special interest money is the only reason he faces a tough re-election battle.

During a recent appearance on The Tucker Carlson Show, Massie claimed that the vast majority of the funding used to bolster his opponent, former Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein, is originating from pro-Israel lobbying groups rather than local constituents.

Massie, known for his consistent votes against foreign aid and military interventions, stated that these groups are targeting him specifically because of his legislative record.

“The money didn’t come from regular people,” Massie told Carlson. “It’s come from billionaires and 95% of it, at least 95% of it, has come from the Israeli lobby.”

The congressman pointed to several high-profile donors and organizations he believes are orchestrating the effort. He specifically named the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), as well as individual billionaires Miriam Adelson, Paul Singer, and John Paulson. According to Massie, these interests have consolidated their resources into a political action committee dubbed “MAGA Kentucky,” a name Massie dismissed as being “neither MAGA nor Kentucky.”

Beyond financial contributions, Massie alleged a deeper level of influence within the halls of Congress. He claimed that nearly every member of Congress is assigned an AIPAC “handler” to guide their voting patterns.

Massie suggested his vocal opposition to this system has made him a primary target for the organization. He also criticized Christians United for Israel, arguing the group co-opts religious voters into supporting AIPAC’s foreign policy goals.

“The real reason that this race is a serious race and I may lose is because a foreign lobby has fully funded, to the extent that they’ve never done in any Republican race ever before, my opponent,” Massie said.

While Massie defends his record as being “least xenophobic” and simply focused on fiscal responsibility, his opponent has gained significant momentum through a high-profile endorsement.

President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind Gallrein. This move is widely viewed as retaliation for Massie’s previous efforts to force the release of files related to Jeffrey Epstein, as well as his opposition to a major legislative package earlier in 2025.

To maintain a low profile in local races, Massie alleged that AIPAC is utilizing Democracy Engine—a vendor with ties to the Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue—to funnel money into the primary. Despite the current pressure, Massie remains a formidable incumbent, having secured his 2024 primary victory with 75.9% of the vote. Whether the current surge in outside spending can bridge that gap remains the central question of the race.
