A former middle school teacher and basketball coach in Kentucky has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for the online enticement of a minor.

William Goodson, 32, of Antioch, Tennessee, was sentenced on Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Claria Horn Boom. Goodson previously pleaded guilty to the charges.

According to court documents, Goodson engaged in sexually explicit communications with a minor student while he was a teacher at South Laurel Middle School between August 2023 and February 2024. He used text messages and Snapchat to send numerous explicit messages to the victim. Goodson admitted to having a “boyfriend-like” relationship with the minor, buying her gifts, and communicating with her daily. He also admitted to engaging in sexual contact with the victim multiple times within his classroom.
