HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – A 44-year-old Brooksville man was arrested Saturday morning on charges of aggravated assault after a tense standoff with law enforcement officers at a local gas station. The suspect, identified as Eric Foreman, reportedly threatened multiple customers and deputies with a knife before being subdued and taken into custody.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began at the Mobil gas station located at 13045 Spring Hill Drive. Witnesses told deputies that Foreman, born on August 24, 1981, was armed with a knife and had been threatening customers.

Upon the arrival of the first deputy, Foreman had already crossed the street to the nearby Exxon gas station at 13075 Spring Hill Drive. When confronted, Foreman allegedly advanced toward the deputy while holding the knife. The deputy deployed OC spray gel, which caused the suspect to fall to one knee. Despite this, Foreman refused to drop the weapon.

A large number of deputies and Florida Highway Patrol troopers quickly arrived on the scene to assist. According to the police report, Foreman repeatedly refused to comply with commands to drop the knife and stated that he would stab any deputy who approached him.

To de-escalate the situation and safely apprehend the suspect, deputies used rounds from a less-lethal shotgun and deployed two tasers. The use of the tasers caused Foreman to drop the knife, at which point he was immediately taken into custody.

Foreman was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance before being taken to the Hernando County Detention Center. He faces charges of Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer. His bond has been set at $10,000.
