Knife-Wielding Florida Keys Woman Arrested After Tense Standoff With Deputies

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A Marathon woman is behind bars after allegedly brandishing a knife and threatening law enforcement officers on Monday afternoon.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of U.S. 1 and Sombrero Beach Road at approximately 4:28 p.m. on July 6, 2026. The response followed a call from a citizen who reported that a woman, later identified as 35-year-old Jennifer Lynn Secrest, was armed with a knife and harassing him.

Upon their arrival at the scene, deputies encountered Secrest, who was reportedly intoxicated. Authorities state that Secrest pulled out a knife and began waving it through the air while directing threats toward the responding deputies.

During the confrontation, Secrest repeatedly dropped the weapon only to pick it back up and resume threatening the officers. Deputies eventually found an opening to safely separate her from the knife and take her into custody.
