Knives In Faceout: New Jersey Teen Surrenders After 911 Call Finds Grandmother Slain

An 18-year-old New Jersey man faces murder charges after police answering a 911 call found his grandmother dead in an upstairs bedroom with two knives sticking out of her face.

Louis Brown, of Jackson Township, was arrested Monday, May 18, and charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. Authorities identified the victim as his 69-year-old grandmother, Darlene Brown, who lived at the same residence.

According to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Jackson Township police officers arrived at a home on Justin Way around 7:00 a.m. following an emergency call that reported someone had been murdered.

When officers pulled up to the property, they found Louis Brown standing in the front doorway. Investigators said Brown walked out of the house with his hands raised and was detained immediately while police searched the interior.

Inside a bedroom on the second floor, officers discovered Darlene Brown’s body. Police noted she had sustained visible stab wounds to her face and neck, and two knives were still protruding from the victim.

A joint investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, the Jackson Township Police Department Detective Bureau, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit determined that Louis Brown was the person who dialed 911 and allege he was responsible for the killing.

Following his arrest, Brown was booked into the Ocean County Jail, where he is being held while awaiting a formal detention hearing.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer issued a statement regarding the rapid arrest, saying he “commends the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Jackson Township Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office, for their collaborative efforts in connection with this investigation leading to Brown’s swift apprehension.”

Under New Jersey legal guidelines, the charges against Brown are strictly accusations. The defendant is legally presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
