MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A New Year’s Day car burglary turned into a frightening confrontation on Thursday when a suspect, allegedly armed with a knife in each hand, scared off a group of teenagers.

Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 36-year-old Roberto Manuel Ceballos following the incident, charging him with aggravated assault with a weapon, burglary, and theft.

The situation unfolded around 4 p.m. on Avenue D, near Mile Marker 101. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Ceballos was spotted illegally entering a parked vehicle. He reportedly grabbed a seemingly random assortment of items, including a pair of sunglasses, a pair of shorts, and a Polaroid photograph.

The petty theft escalated when a group of juveniles approached the vehicle, intending to confront or speak with the intruder. Authorities say Ceballos turned toward them while brandishing two knives. The teenagers immediately fled the scene.

Deputies arrived quickly and took Ceballos into custody. Despite the presence of weapons, officials confirmed that no injuries were reported. Ceballos was subsequently booked into jail.
