LAKELAND, Fla. – An eviction notice served in Lakeland on Saturday evening resulted in the arrest of the resident on an out-of-state warrant, as well as new drug possession charges.
At approximately 6:40 p.m. on Saturday, October 18th, a Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) deputy arrived at a residence on Hampton Avenue to serve an eviction notice. The individual being evicted was identified as 29-year-old Carlos Leiva.
During the service process, the deputy discovered that Leiva was wanted on an active theft warrant issued out of Prince George’s County, Maryland. Leiva was immediately taken into custody based on the outstanding warrant.

Following the arrest, a search found Leiva in possession of a baggie containing methamphetamine. As a result, Leiva now faces local charges in Polk County for felony possession of methamphetamine and a misdemeanor charge for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Leiva was booked into the Polk County Jail, where he will be held before being extradited to Maryland to face the original theft charge in Upper Marlboro.
