POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 67-year-old Lakeland man wanted on an outstanding warrant was arrested Thursday afternoon after telling a law enforcement officer over the phone that he would turn himself in the following week.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy arrived at a home on Sandra Way around 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, to locate Andrew Leopold Freider Allen. Allen was wanted on an active felony warrant for failure to appear for an inmate work program on prior charges of resisting an officer and providing false information to law enforcement regarding a missing person.
While on scene, the deputy reached Allen by phone. During the call, Allen told the deputy he would turn himself in on Monday.
A short time later, a white pickup truck arrived at the house. Allen exited the residence and attempted to leave in the truck, but the deputy intervened and took him into custody without incident.
Allen was transported and booked into the Sheriff’s Processing Center on the outstanding warrant.
Sheriff’s deputies say Allen has a prior criminal history, which includes charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle, sale and possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated assault, simple battery, false imprisonment, and driving without a valid driver’s license.
Allen has also served two separate terms in Florida State Prison, totaling two and a half years.
