LAKELAND, Fla. – A disturbance call in Eagle Lake over the weekend resulted in the arrest of a Lakeland man who is now facing multiple charges, including battery on a law enforcement officer.
On Sunday, October 6th, at approximately 11:50 a.m., Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported disturbance on West Lake Avenue. Upon arrival, deputies encountered 33-year-old Joseph Stover and a woman who had been involved in an argument.

Stover was accused of entering the woman’s vehicle without her permission and rendering it inoperable. During the investigation, Stover interfered with the deputy’s attempts to gather information. Despite being cautioned, Stover became increasingly agitated and physically assaulted the deputy, striking him multiple times on the head.
Stover was subsequently arrested and transported to the Polk County Jail. He faces charges of:
- Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer
- Burglary of a Conveyance
- Felony Petit Theft
- Resisting with Violence
- Three counts of Resisting without Violence
The deputy sustained minor injuries during the altercation, including abrasions to his head and small cuts to his ear and arm.
