37-Year-Old Robert Michael Vaughan clocked at 113 MPH, claims he was unaware of his speed.
LAKELAND, Fla. – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Lakeland man Friday evening after he was caught driving at a dangerously high speed on the Polk Parkway. Robert Michael Vaughan, 37, was taken into custody after a deputy clocked his vehicle at 113 mph in a 65 mph zone.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:54 p.m. when a PCSO deputy on patrol observed a 2004 Nissan 350Z traveling at a high rate of speed. A radar check confirmed the vehicle was moving at nearly double the posted speed limit.
A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver, identified as Mr. Vaughan, was pulled over. According to the deputy’s report, when asked about his speed, Vaughan stated that he had “no idea” he was going as fast as he was.
Despite having no prior traffic infractions in Florida, Mr. Vaughan was arrested and transported to the Sheriff’s Processing Center. He has been charged with Dangerous Excessive Speeding.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reminds drivers of the importance of adhering to speed limits for the safety of all motorists.
