HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL. – A 51-year-old Land O’ Lakes man was killed Wednesday after a single-car crash led to a man falling over a barrier wall.
According to investigators, at 1:51 PM, FHP Troopers responded to a traffic crash along the northbound lanes of the Veterans Expressway (SR-589) near Waters Avenue in Hillsborough County.
Troopers discovered that a 2019 Ford Fusion was traveling northbound in the outside lane and collided with the crash attenuator at the ramp to Waters Avenue.
Following the collision, the driver continued approximately 100 yards before coming to final rest.
Once coming to a controlled stop, the driver exited the vehicle and walked southbound for 50 yards.
Troopers say the 51-year-old Land O’ Lakes man then climbed over the barrier wall, fell onto the grass shoulder, and suffered fatal injuries.
