HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A Tampa man faces multiple felony charges following a Sunday evening crash on US-41 that left two people dead and two others injured.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the collision occurred on June 7, 2026, at approximately 5:45 PM in Hillsborough County. A Nissan Pathfinder was traveling northbound on US-41, north of Debuel Road, when it overtook and struck the back of a northbound Toyota Camry that was traveling ahead of it in the inside lane.
The impact caused both vehicles to spin out of control. The Pathfinder came to a stop in the inside travel lane, while the Camry came to rest in the raised center median.
The 53-year-old male driver of the Camry, a resident of Land O’ Lakes, and a 60-year-old female passenger from Lutz both sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
The driver of the Pathfinder, identified by state troopers as 21-year-old Navesh Persaud of Tampa, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. A second passenger in the Camry, a 55-year-old man from Land O’ Lakes, also sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency personnel transported both injured individuals to local hospitals for treatment.
FHP troopers investigating the incident determined that Persaud was driving under the influence at the time of the crash. Following his medical release from the hospital, authorities arrested Persaud and transported him to the Hillsborough County Jail. He faces two counts of DUI Manslaughter and one count of DUI Serious Injury.
