Where Is Petro Kuqo? Largo Police Issue New Statement Months After 87-Year-Old Vanished

LARGO, Fla. – More than two months after an 87-year-old man with dementia walked out of his Clearwater home and vanished without a trace, the Largo Police Department insists the case is far from cold.

In response to inquiries about the mysterious disappearance of Petro Kuqo, authorities released a brief update this week to remind the public that the search is still very much active.

“Detectives continue to diligently follow up on all leads and pursue every available avenue,” the department stated. While no new details are currently available for release, investigators are urging anyone holding onto even the smallest piece of information to step forward.

The frustrating lack of answers dates back to the morning of December 12, 2025. Around 9:00 a.m., Kuqo left his apartment at 1845 Oak Trail West wearing a grey pajama shirt, dark grey sweatpants, and black shoes. He stepped out the door with no money, no phone, and no identification. Making the situation significantly more critical, Kuqo is Albanian and speaks no English.

Within a week of his disappearance, a massive multi-agency dragnet had scoured the area. Teams deployed bloodhounds, cadaver dogs, helicopters, and drones. Marine units searched the waters, while detectives combed through hours of surveillance and public transit footage with the help of the Pinellas and Pasco County Sheriff’s Offices, along with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

By December 19, police made the difficult decision to scale back physical resources at the immediate scene. Investigators concluded that the sheer scale of the ground search meant that if Kuqo were still in the immediate vicinity, search teams would have found him.

Today, the plea for public assistance remains. Detectives still want to hear from anyone who might have seen something out of the ordinary, or who might have overlooked older doorbell or security camera footage.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Largo Police Department immediately at 727-587-6730.
