Fox Business host Larry Kudlow argued on his show Kudlow that foreign policy—specifically the conflict with Iran—will serve as the primary driver for voters in the upcoming midterm elections, rather than domestic economic issues or tax policy.
Kudlow stated that President Donald Trump holds a stronger political position than standard polling suggests. According to the television host, while key domestic issues like GDP growth, inflation, tax cuts, and voter ID reform remain important to the electorate, the administration’s strategic objectives regarding Iran will ultimately determine election outcomes.
“I’m going to say what’s driving this election is going to be the war in Iran and its outcome and clear evidence that we have met our war objectives of reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending Tehran’s nuclear capabilities and, in short, win the war,” Kudlow said.
During the segment, Kudlow criticized mainstream public opinion surveys, contending that many headline polls measure general adult populations rather than registered or likely voters, which he argued skews the data against Republicans.
To support his view on public sentiment, Kudlow cited a July 22 survey conducted by McLaughlin & Associates for Tea Party Patriots Action.
According to the survey of 1,000 general election voters, 72 percent agreed that Iran should not be permitted to block, attack, mine, or extort shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The survey also indicated that 62 percent of respondents agreed the United States should finish the job with Iran to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear capabilities.
Addressing current operations, Kudlow pointed to ongoing combat and economic measures designed to reopen international shipping lanes, enforce trade sanctions, and back covert operations alongside Israel aimed at regime change. He suggested that a successful resolution to the conflict would stabilize energy markets and lower gasoline prices at home.
“If Mr. Trump stays with this full-speed-ahead approach, it is going to turn out very well in the next few months or even sooner,” Kudlow said, adding his expectation that military progress in the Middle East will ultimately sway the midterms.
