A Florida man found out the hard way that stop signs aren’t optional, and the middle of an intersection isn’t a parking spot.
Early Sunday morning, a Suwannee County Sheriff’s deputy spotted 45-year-old Tony Stafford Brannon, Jr. cruising through an intersection without stopping. Instead of keeping things moving, Brannon reportedly parked his vehicle right in the middle of the crossroads, threw it into reverse, and decided to try driving in the wrong lane for a bit before wandering back to his side of the road.
The deputy pulled the vehicle over around 2:35 AM and immediately noticed a few classic signs that this wasn’t just a case of bad navigation. According to law enforcement, Brannon had bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech, and smelled strongly of alcohol. When asked about it, Brannon openly admitted he had been drinking.
However, that’s where the cooperation ended. Brannon flatly refused to perform any field sobriety exercises, which earned him a pair of handcuffs and a ride to the Suwannee County Jail.
Once at the jail, authorities read Brannon Florida’s Implied Consent Warning, but he doubled down and refused to provide a breath sample.
Brannon is now facing charges of Driving Under the Influence and Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test. Following the arrest, Sheriff Sam St. John noted that the agency remains committed to identifying and removing impaired drivers from the road to keep the county safe.
