A Georgia man wanted on multiple fraud charges is behind bars in Flagler County after deputies spotted him walking along a Palm Coast roadway late Wednesday night.
Deputies with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office stopped two men around 10:56 p.m. on August 19 as they walked along the Matanzas Woods Parkway overpass near Old Kings Road North. During the stop, authorities identified one of the pedestrians as 31-year-old Antonio Malik Carter of Acworth, Georgia.
A background check revealed Carter had an active warrant out of Georgia for failing to appear in court on charges of identity fraud, financial transaction card fraud, and theft of lost or mislaid property.
Deputies issued Carter a verbal warning for the pedestrian violation before taking him into custody on the out-of-state warrant. The second man walking with him was not charged.
“Flagler County is not a hideout. If you skip out on a judge in Georgia and think you can disappear on our streets, you picked the wrong county to walk through,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Now he’s going to stay in the Green Roof Inn until we can put his butt on next prison bus to Georgia.”
Carter was booked into the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility as a fugitive from justice. He is currently being held without bond while awaiting extradition back to Georgia.
