Lobbying firms received an estimated $164.4 million for their work in the Legislature in 2022, a major increase from the two previous years, according to a new state report on lobbyist compensation.

Firms collected an estimated $153.6 million for legislative lobbying in 2021 and $139.2 million in 2020, reports show.

Firms faced a Tuesday deadline for filing reports showing compensation for the final three months of 2022.

The numbers are estimates, because firms mostly report compensation in ranges.

During the fourth quarter of 2022, firms collected about $40.7 million, according to a compilation posted on the state lobbyist registration website.
