‘Let Me In’ Midnight Break-In Ends In Arrest After Winter Haven Woman Attacked With Bottle

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – A Winter Haven man is behind bars after authorities say he forced his way into a relative’s home after midnight and assaulted her with a bottle.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a disturbance call in a residential neighborhood near Buckeye Loop Road and Dundee Road in Winter Haven at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Monday.

According to deputies, a female resident was awakened by a relative, identified as 40-year-old Truston David Kunze, banging on her door and yelling, “Let me in.” Officials noted that Kunze does not live at the home.

When the victim did not open the door, Kunze went to a window, forced his way inside the residence, and struck the victim with a bottle. The victim told Kunze that she was calling law enforcement, prompting him to flee the scene on foot.

Responding deputies located Kunze shortly after in the neighborhood. Investigators determined that while attempting to hide from law enforcement, Kunze had broken into another nearby property without the owner’s permission.

A background check revealed that Kunze was already on active probation for felony battery at the time of the incident.

Kunze was arrested and transported to the Sheriff’s Processing Center.

He faces multiple charges, including two first-degree felony counts of burglary with assault or battery, burglary of a dwelling, second-degree misdemeanor criminal mischief, and two counts of violation of probation.
