A 46-year-old Tennessee woman was arrested on drug charges after police found methamphetamine in her pocket—despite her defense that the pants she was wearing did not belong to her.
Amanda Nicole Johnson was discovered slumped over and asleep inside a Ford F-150 pickup truck parked in front of a gas pump at TJ’s Food Mart in Sweetwater, according to the Advocate and Democrat of Madisonville. Responding officers noted she was asleep with a cigarette still in her hand.
After waking Johnson up and asking her to exit the vehicle, officers noticed a small bulge in the coin pocket of her jeans. A closer look revealed a small plastic baggie containing what authorities believed to be methamphetamine.
When questioned about the contraband, Johnson claimed the pants were not hers. However, she also told authorities she had just worn that exact pair of jeans throughout her entire 12-hour work shift.
According to reports, deputies did not believe the story, calling Johnson a “liar, liar, pants on fire” before placing her under arrest.
Despite her claims regarding the ownership of the trousers, Johnson was charged with possession and booked into the Monroe County jail. Sheriff’s office records show she was released the following day after posting a $5,000 bond.
