VALRICO, Fla. – Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire Thursday evening on Windy Gap Place in Valrico.
HCFR’s Emergency Dispatch Center received a 911 call at 7:33 PM from a first-party caller reporting one of their bedrooms was filling with smoke.
The first arriving crews initially reported no smoke or flames were visible, but Engine 18 quickly discovered heavy smoke in the master bedroom on the home’s second floor.
Engine 18 advanced a handline through the front door and up the stairs. They found the blaze between the first and second floors and quickly extinguished it. Other crews checked for fire extension and ventilated the structure for better visibility.
Engine 18’s quick action kept the fire between the first and second story in a small area of the master bedroom. Primary and secondary searches were conducted, confirming no occupants were in the home. There were no injuries to first responders or civilians.
The cause of the fire was determined to be a lightning strike.
