‘Like Jack Nicholson In The Shining’: Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy Torches ‘Hysterical’ Dem Lawmakers

Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) unleashed a blistering critique of his Democratic colleagues on Wednesday, accusing them of encouraging military insubordination.

In a fiery segment on Fox News’ Hannity, Kennedy argued that certain lawmakers have dangerously overstepped by advising service members to disobey what they deem “illegal orders” from the President. The controversy appears to stem from the administration’s aggressive stance on foreign narco-terrorists, a policy Kennedy staunchly defended as both morally necessary and legally sound.

“The last few days, Sean, have been surreal,” Kennedy told host Sean Hannity. “Many of my Democratic colleagues, some Republicans… they’ve been acting like Jack Nicholson in The Shining. They’re just hysterical.”

Kennedy ripped the mental state of his political opponents, suggesting they had “clearly exceeded the limits of their meds” in their reaction to the White House’s military directives.

At the heart of the dispute is the President’s authority to utilize military force against drug cartels without explicit congressional approval. Kennedy, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, dismissed the “illegal order” narrative as constitutionally illiterate.

He cited Article II powers and pointed to historical precedents set by Presidents Truman, Clinton, and George H.W. Bush, noting that previous administrations conducted military operations—including bombings in Serbia and the invasion of Panama—without similar outcry from the left.

“They’re speaking directly to our folks in the military, telling them to disobey orders… they’re out of control,” Kennedy said. He further contended that if the President were present, he would justify the strikes as a defense of American children against state-sponsored terrorists pouring deadly opioids and fentanyl across the border.

The Louisiana Senator also directed fire at his own side of the aisle, singling out one Republican colleague, without naming him, who he claimed had “lost his mind.”

According to Kennedy, this GOP senator (Sen. Rand Paul) has gone so far as to accuse the President of war crimes for targeting cartels, a stance Kennedy ridiculed as prioritizing the due process of drug smugglers over national security.

Kennedy concluded the interview by reiterating that intelligence on the cartels is “breathtakingly” accurate and that the American public largely supports decisive action against organizations responsible for the overdose epidemic.
