Florida lawmakers’ budget requests for local projects and programs continued to surge as the annual legislative session prepares to start Tuesday.

More than 150 proposals were filed last week in the House, seeking about $770 million.

In all, House members had filed about 2,320 budget proposals seeking more than $5.36 billion.

In the Senate, more than 470 requests were filed last week. That brought the total to 1,450, with a total potential cost of $2.76 billion.

As an example, Sen. Travis Hutson, R-St. Augustine, proposed a combined total of $52 million in separate proposals to extend the Matanzas Woods Parkway to a proposed sports complex facility in Flagler County.

Lawmakers will consider the requests over the next two months as they negotiate a budget for the 2023-2024 fiscal year that is likely to exceed $110 billion.
