A Monday afternoon shooting at Thomas S. Wootton High School in Rockville, Maryland, left at least one person wounded and sent the high-achieving campus into an immediate lockdown. Montgomery County Police confirmed that officers have already taken one individual into custody in connection with the violence at the suburban campus.

The incident unfolded at a school frequently cited as one of the best in the nation, located in an affluent pocket of Montgomery County just outside Washington, D.C.

As of last Monday afternoon, the campus remained under a heavy police presence with all surrounding roads blocked off to through traffic. Emergency responders and school officials worked to secure the building while parents gathered nearby, waiting for news about their children.

Police have established a specific reunification plan to manage the chaos and ensure students get home safely. For parents and guardians, the designated meeting point is Robert Frost Middle School at 9201 Scott Drive.

Authorities explicitly requested that parents of students who normally ride the bus stay away from the high school campus entirely. Those students will be sent home on their standard bus routes once investigators deem the area safe for departure.

For students who do not ride the bus, including those who walk or are typically picked up by car, the department indicated that specific reunification instructions would be released shortly.

While the condition of the person shot has not been officially updated, law enforcement noted that they are currently coordinating a staggered dismissal to maintain order.

This is a developing story.
