Long-Time Leaders on Hillsborough Planning Commission Thanked for Insights and Commitment

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – The Hillsborough County Planning Commission began its Tuesday meeting recognizing two gentlemen who’ve both served on the board for nine years. Commissioner Mitch Thrower, former Chairman, and Commissioner Theodore Trent Green were honored for their dedication.

Each received plaques in their honor which reads in part, “with gratitude and recognition of nine years of exemplary service, with vision, leadership and commitment to improving the quality of life in our community.”

Commissioner Thrower thanked the commissioners and staff and congratulated Commissioner Nigel Joseph for doing an excellent job as Chairman during a difficult time.  It was noted that serving as Chair of the Commission is challenging and to do it for so long is, “inspirational and a learning experience,” added Commissioner Joseph.

“A lot of the reason I am able to do the job is in large part through watching you do this.  It’s amazing to sit here now and understand the responsibility and levity of work that goes into being the Chairman of this organization.  My hat is off to you because for as long as you were Chairman, you made it look very, very easy, “ Commissioner Joseph added.

Also recognized yesterday was Commissioner Green who several commissioners noted was a leader who offered great inspiration, insight, questions, and knowledge that served the commission well.

Trent Green is also an Associate Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at the University of South Florida.  Commissioner Green thanked all on the commission and staff.  Both will be missed for their commitment to their objectives of the commission.

Commissioner Vivienne Handy, a certified Professional Wetland Scientist with more than 30 years of experience, is new to the Planning Commission and was welcomed and sworn in during Tuesday’s planning commission meeting.
