A veteran law enforcement officer with over three decades on the force is facing criminal charges after investigators discovered he was billing taxpayers while never leaving his house.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested Sgt. Eric Mixon, 53, on Thursday, March 26, 2026. Mixon, who served as a School Resource Officer (SRO) Sergeant, now faces seven counts of official misconduct for allegedly falsifying his work timesheets.
The investigation into Mixon’s conduct began earlier this month. According to authorities, a detailed review of his work-related activity, equipment logs, and other digital evidence revealed a pattern of deception.

The records showed that Mixon claimed full workdays for a significant number of shifts where he remained at his residence for the duration of his scheduled hours.
Mixon officially retired from the agency earlier in March, shortly after being interviewed by investigators regarding the discrepancies in his hours. His career with the Sheriff’s Office spanned more than 31 years, having first been hired on Jan. 18, 1995.
Sheriff Rick Ramsay addressed the arrest directly, emphasizing the need for accountability within his own ranks. “I take officer integrity and fiscal responsibility very seriously and I am committed to being transparent when both positive and negative examples arise,” Ramsay said in a statement following the arrest.
