Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy Rejects Viral Quote Shared By Trump Alleging Obama Kickbacks

A viral social media post shared by President Donald Trump on Truth Social has been confirmed as a fabrication by the lawmaker it quoted. On Tuesday, Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy addressed a screenshot originally posted by a user named “JOSH DUNLAP,” which claimed the Senator was demanding Barack Obama return $120 million earned through “Obamacare.”

The fake post alleged that Kennedy accused the former president of using “taxpayer-generated prestige” for personal gain and threatened to refer the matter to the Department of Justice if the money wasn’t returned within three days. It characterized the situation as an “abuse of public office.”

When questioned by NOTUS regarding the viral claim, Kennedy expressed confusion and denied ever making such statements.

“Somebody told me there was something floating around on the internet about me accusing President Obama of stealing $120 million or something,” Kennedy stated. “I didn’t say that. I don’t know the basis of it.”

Fact-checkers have since traced the origin of the quote to a “satire” website known for creating fictional stories intended for viral distribution among conservative audiences.

According to the fact-checking site Lead Stories, this specific $120 million narrative has been recycled multiple times, with the same quote previously being falsely attributed to figures ranging from Kash Patel to country singer Vince Gill.

Kennedy, despite being a vocal ally of the former president, made it clear on Tuesday that this specific accusation against Obama had no basis in fact.

The spread of this fabricated quote comes at a time when many conservatives remain deeply skeptical of the financial transparency surrounding high-ranking former officials.
