Republican Louisiana Senator John Kennedy has sharply criticized an ABC News reporter for describing text messages from the suspect accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk as “touching.” The senator’s comments came during an appearance on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle,” where he expressed his outrage at the characterization.

ABC News reporter Matt Gutman used the term “touching” to describe the messages exchanged between the alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, and Robinson’s transgender romantic partner. Authorities say Robinson, who had embraced a “deeply indoctrinated leftist ideology,” admitted to killing Kirk in the texts, telling his partner he “had enough of [Kirk’s] hatred.”

“Some people need a shock collar. Touching? The guy just murdered another human being,” Kennedy told host Laura Ingraham. “It reminded me of something my dog would bring up. You know, I try to be tolerant of other points of view. I really do, but that wasn’t touching. And no fair-minded person can call it touching.”

Kennedy also addressed the broader issue of political rhetoric and media coverage. He agreed with Ingraham’s observation that some in the press have vilified supporters of President Donald Trump while showing compassion for those who target them.

Kennedy went on to attribute the problem to both the media and social media platforms, stating that social media “has lowered the cost of being an a-hole.” He described the online environment as “rage bait” and a significant part of the problem.

Despite earlier narratives portraying Robinson as a conservative Christian, Utah Governor Spencer Cox and investigators have since confirmed that Robinson held “deeply indoctrinated leftist ideology.”

This revelation counters initial reports based on his family’s background and highlights the complexities surrounding the motive behind the attack on Charlie Kirk.
