A quiet night on the water turned into a violent confrontation Friday when a Marathon man allegedly went after a guest with a machete.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office took 66-year-old Luis Ancieto Herrada into custody following the incident, which took place late in the evening on April 24, 2026.
According to deputies, the trouble started around 10:42 p.m. aboard Herrada’s vessel. An adult male victim, who had been staying on the boat, told investigators that Herrada suddenly “snapped” and began an aggressive argument.
The situation escalated rapidly when Herrada reportedly grabbed a machete and began swinging it at the guest.
The victim managed to avoid the blade, but the ordeal didn’t end there. As the man tried to scramble off the boat to safety, Herrada allegedly chased him down and struck him with an unidentified object.

Despite the frightening nature of the encounter and the presence of the large knife, authorities confirmed that the victim did not suffer any serious injuries during the scuffle.
Herrada was arrested on the scene and transported to the Monroe County Jail. He now faces formal charges of aggravated assault and battery. Sheriff’s Office records show the investigation into what exactly triggered the outburst is ongoing.
