A federal grand jury has indicted 26 members of the Massachusetts-based Trinitarios gang on sweeping racketeering charges, linking the group to five murders and 19 attempted murders.
The June 9 indictments allege widespread RICO violations, including the trafficking of dozens of kilograms of drugs, extortion, kidnapping, robbery, and firearms offenses.
The Trinitarios gang reportedly originated inside New York’s Rikers Island Prison to protect incarcerated Dominican nationals. Since expanding outside prison walls, the group has become known for wielding machetes during coordinated “swarm-executions” targeting individuals who disrespect them.
The crackdown was executed by ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) New England alongside its Homeland Security Task Force partners. Among those apprehended in the ongoing investigation are seven illegal aliens who have either been deported in the past or are currently in deportation proceedings.
“We’re facing more dangerous, more violent, and more complex crime than ever before, but HSI and the Homeland Security Task Force are ready to meet the challenge,” said HSI New England Acting Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey Grimming.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to process the arrested individuals and review evidence related to the extensive list of violent and financial crimes.
